Trump also ordered on his first day in office the&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gangs-cartels-sinaloa-aragua-trump-terrorist-organizations-b223f4eb513105fb8d965f80a6cecfeb\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">designation of some of Mexico\u2019s drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations<\/a><\/span>. Those designations will be published in Thursday\u2019s edition of the Federal Register, according to a notice Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico responded to the tariff threat by&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/national-guard-mexico-border-ciudad-juarez-sheinbaum-b26e9d359f4f17b60925bd3935d169d3\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\">sending 10,000 National Guard troops<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;to the northern border.<\/p>\n<div class=\"SovrnAd Advertisement sovrn-story-feed proper-dynamic-insertion\" data-module=\"\" data-class=\"sovrn-story-feed\" data-delayadinsertion=\"\" data-ad-position=\"3\">The drone flights were reported Tuesday by the New York Times as a Central Intelligence Agency program aimed at locating fentanyl labs in northwestern Mexico. The flights follow U.S. military statements that it had increased surveillance capabilities along the countries\u2019 shared border. The CIA declined to comment in response to questions about the drone flights.<\/div>\n<div data-module=\"\" data-class=\"sovrn-story-feed\" data-delayadinsertion=\"\" data-ad-position=\"3\">\n<p>Mexico\u2019s Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla addressed the flights by U.S. military planes last week, saying that they had not entered Mexican airspace, but that he couldn\u2019t rule out they were spying because he didn\u2019t know what they were doing.<\/p>\n<p>Sheinbaum on Wednesday presented a more detailed explanation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese flights are part of the coordination \u2026 collaborations that have been going on for many years, between the United States government and the Mexican government,\u201d Sheinbaum said at her daily press briefing. \u201cEvery time it is at Mexico\u2019s request for collaboration, for information to be able to attend to security conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the information gathered was shared with Mexican authorities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum&nbsp;said Wednesday that surveillance drone flights by the U.S. government over Mexico are occurring in collaboration with and at the request of her government.
