(AP Photo\/Marco Ugarte, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">Mexico\u2019s president said Monday his country wants to recover a big chunk of money from former Mexican security official Genaro Garcia Luna, who is on trial in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador said his government wants to recover $700 million that Garc\u00eda Luna allegedly accumulated as a result of corruption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">Foreign Relations Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said Mexico has filed a lawsuit in Florida, where Garcia Luna lived after leaving Mexico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">Formerly the country\u2019s top security officer, Garcia Luna is on trial in New York, accused of accepting briefcases full of cash \u2014 millions of dollars, in all \u2014 to let the notorious Sinaloa cartel operate with impunity as it sent tons of cocaine to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">He served as secretary of public security to then-President Felipe Calderon from 2006 to 2012.
